Surprised Jerry didn’t use Gooding & Co. here in March.
Gooding & Co. @ Amelia has become the place to sell Porsches. From what I’ve heard almost all of the “premium” sales @ Mecum have been Dana Mecum’s personal cars.

I'm very surprised with the use of Mecum also. I would have imagined either Monterey or Amelia. But I think the money will come out for this one on its own. Maybe that's the thinking....... ONE star of the show.

I'm curious why he's selling some cars. It's not like he needs the wampum and he's got space in NYC/LA and even here (his wife is a local girl and maintains a place here too). Perhaps this is the Porsche market denoument?

My notifications from BaT and CaB as well as Cars.com/AutoTempest/Carsforsale/etc are blowing up with Porsches/AMG's/Ferraris/AM's with most cars not selling and the ones that do sell for 15~% less than the previous level. Who the hell knows if people have finally tapped out. Frankly, the valuations the past year have been absurd and matched the previous 18~ months.

My dream DD has been a 917K in Gulf Livery for decades (I am mostly not kidding). McQueen's would be the pinnacle of that (Steve lived up the hill from me as a kid and he always stopped to chat if I was out front when he went by).

Why is Jerry selling? I'd guess (a) he's getting older and perhaps thinning the herd, and (b) maybe he sees this is the top of the market, as I think it could be (although McQueen's 917 is far up the value chain it probably will just keep going up forever).

I watched an hour or so...NONE of the high end Euro cars sold....Porsche, Ferrari, M-B, etc.
Mecum of course did well with the "1 of..." low production American muscle but they are struggling to go upmarket
I'm sure a cooling of the collector car market ( and auction overload eg BAT) doesn't help either

Mecum has never been the place for specialty Euro/Foreign exotics, sportscars, etc. For really special stuff like this, Goodings, RM Sothebys or Bonhams. Mecum is where the best American Muscle goes. The seller of this car must have thought he got a really great deal. Unfortunatley for him, the market has now set "a" price that will be hard to negotiate against. That's the risk in an auction like this.
