Is this part sitting on the hinge a shim for alignment or is it a required part for better grip/bite for the hinge as it is bolted down.? One side has it... The other side doesn't. The only part the body shop removed was of course the rear hatch and I'm wondering if this part is now missing on one side.....

Well... With the trunk gasket installed, I think I have my answer. Driverside definitely needs to come up.

So... What would be a suitable material to make a shim in this application. That hatch is heavy.
