I'm revisiting this.

Current limitations: I don't have most of the original 928 speakers. The ones in my car were replaced before I bought it, so I'm working off what I have.

Final version will be printed in ASA, then sanded and painted. Dimensions will be close to original, but not exact. First priority is making a functional replacement. "Make it exist, then make it good."

I'm getting rid of the original threaded attachment and going with magnets. The base ring mounts in place, and the cover will snap on magnetically. That should make install/removal easier.

The plastic piece that retains the mesh screen will have to be pressed in and glued. After that it’ll get four magnets that align with the base. I'm finally happy with the dimensions on the first prototype.

Right now I'm working on a press to make new mesh blanks. Following getting that right, I'll work on a mandrel to mount the plastic ring so that it can be rotated and sanded to remove layer lines/imperfections before painting.

Prototype with an original speaker grill that's rather worse for wear:

Make your line size smaller (0.12 or so) and enable ironing, and I bet you’ll be shocked how clean it comes out.

ASAP is da bomb, as far as I am concerned, I print almost everything in ASA.

That was just a PLA .30 draft.

Currently printing another out of ASA at 0.15. I'm printing the visible part in 3 or 4 different ways, including as couple using "fuzzy walls" setting to maybe eliminate post processing.

Update: I'm not sure how I feel about it.

I would like to make a run of sets to sell, however taking an item from a hand fit one off to a saleable product is a MASSIVE leap.

Right now each set takes ~10hrs to make.
