Hi,
I have a friend about to get his GT3 RS, arriving in September. He will sell his 2022 718 GT4, 6-speed manual, to make room. Light option car except for the full bucket seats. Chalk exterior (I love that color), with factory, Satan black wheels. Black interior.
7,500 miles and never tracked. He ordered the car with the intention to track etc. But he had to wait 1 year for an allocation, then COVID hit. And wife delivered him a daughter the week the car arrived. So he never did track the 718 GT4. He swears he will track the GT3.
I can get first dib if I am interested. But.....
(1) At age 75, ingress/egress may be an issue.
(2) Not going to track or auto-cross this car. Not at my age now.
(3) Hopefully not to old to loose my fire to drive local winding roads.
(4) Wife will never get into the GT4 with me. But we can still go places in the SL that she loves.
(5) I actually still have my 2007 Cayman sitting in my daughter's garage.
(6) I only have a 2-car garage. The Sorento will have to live outside if I pick this one up.
(7) The 718s have tall gears, most likely I don't even need third gear (or higher) much, even on freeways.
(8) We have all the cars we need with the Sorento and the SL. But a 718 GT4 manual???
OTOH....
(1) It is a car in high demand: manual and full buckets. I can enjoy it for a few years and still sell it readily. In fact, a local exotic car dealer told me they'll gladly buy it anytime as they know they can sell it in a heartbeat. Factory warranty expires in October 25, 2025. I will add an extended warranty if I buy it. Peace of mind for myself, and future owner if I sell.
(2) The 718 GT4 and the 2007 Cayman are actually totally different cars. Can't really compare the fun-to-drive factor between the two.
(3) You only live once, this is perhaps the epitome of Porsche performance, short of the RS versions (718 and 911 GT3s) for another $80k+ more. Just owning one would be a privilege.
(4) Four liter (6-cylinders) + 9,000 red line, mid-engine sound. That's heaven right there. The lesser versions are 4-cylinders with turbos.
I have 5-6 weeks before he is ready to sell. Time to ponder this one.
Advice anyone?
