Not a pro wrench, but I want better tools as the local dealerships are criminals. A Jeep dealership tried to sell me on a new engine when I am convinced all I have is a flaky electrical issue, so I want to upgrade my scanner. Seems like Autel and Launch, despite being Chinese, are pretty well rounded.

Anyone have an opinion before I pull the trigger? Budget is less than $1000.

I don't think there is a perfect scanner. I have one of the crazy expensive Snap-On scanners which works well for most cars, but then I have a separate scanner for Porsche, and software on my laptop for Alfa Romeo and Maserati, and software for BMW that will do things that my Snap-On scanner won't do.
Autel is pretty well-rounded, and is definitely something I would consider if I needed to replace the Snap-On. A shop that I do contract work for uses an Autel for almost everything.

Thanks! I wish you were closer, I’d just drop my stuff off with you. I just drove through Akron on Thursday but was on a tight timeline and couldn’t stop. Hopefully next time…

I had a mid range Foxwell where you could buy individual car manufacturer modules. It was great. Until, they "upgraded" some "programming" features. The upgrade removed the ability to add stuff to my car (Benz - Auxiliary input). I raised a royal stink with them and they did nothing. I got a "similar" (sold the Foxwell) Autel and it's terrific.
