Yeah. Saw that.

Those the Augment wheels?

Out of curiosity: sizes, offsets. And tires?

Quick correction on the Facebook car listed above as in Arvada (https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/it ... ger_banner): it's not in Arvada. It's about 3 hours northwest, near Steamboat Springs. Arvada is in Denver Metro, Steamboat is in the mountains about 40 miles south of Wyoming.

If it were here in town I'd go look at it.

Thank you. I will dub this one

"The Charlottesville Ghost"

in honor of nearby Halloween and its color.

Description seems a bit misinformed but claims it is an 86.5. No VIN on the ad (but I am not on Facebook):

"This desirable variant has the Faster S4 Motor & S4 Brakes."

No motor pics, however, so that is concerning.

Blue interior looks pretty good in the video (except the aftermarket wrapping on the steering wheel):

yes, interesting description indeed, since it does not have a "faster S4 motor". The engine specs are essentially the same for 85/86 US models (and a few 86 Euro models that had the US pipe organ intake). And I'm not sure hoe brakes can be "faster" as well, but I think that is just bad writing. FB, like eBay, is like Walmart of the internet.

‘87 just listed on BaT appears to have no air filter(*) installed.

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1987- ... 28-s4-137/

It is *probably* that the K&N filter and air box top are so poorly fitted that it appears the filter is missing.

Rhetorical question: How well does the filter do its job if fitted like that? How much unfiltered air reaches the engine?

Non-rhetorical question: For how many engine operating hours has the air filter been like that?

(*) I’m not even going to bother with the standard speech on a K&N filter in a 928. This group knows that scoop already.

Thoughtfully, the seller included a close-up:

My confusion comes from this trio of additional gauges.
At 41 years old and <10K miles, it was obviously NOT a driver's car.
So who needed or why these ..... does not make sense to me.

Yes, and the edge-broken-up AC temp sensor inlet always makes me question who did work on the car.

But suddenly, someone is now thinking it is very valuable!

Dave K (davek9 on TOS) is selling this 78 (VIN 9288200774) for $7k with a lot of original 78 bits and a ton of work to straighten it out after a rear end driveway incident that happened to LT Texan who owned it since the 90's. Still needs some work, but to me it is a screaming deal even with all the work still required.

Pulled this over from my post in the Bring a Trailer Finds thread in Cars and Driving:

I'm lusting after this one. Green Euro 928S with a 5 speed and pascha interior. That's as good as it gets in my books.

Will be curious to see where the high bid ends up and if it meets reserve.

90 GT on BaT

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1990- ... 928-gt-21/

I have *never* seen a 928 engine bay this -^ fucked up.

It looks like it was assembled by drunk monkeys that had never even seen a 928 before.

Anyone that buys this one needs to bring a blank check if they expect me, or Greg, or Sean, or Howard to make it right.

It is so fucked up that I find it hard to believe that it has 45k-miles. 145k-miles and a cluster swap. Maybe.

All my comments on BaT are now flagged for moderation. This I posted two hours ago and hasn't yet been "let through:"

Another engine air filter installed upside down.

I looked at one engine bay picture for about 10 seconds. This is a very-preliminary list of things that are wrong:
Fuel supply hard line is completely misrouted.
Front main harness is misrouted.
LH harness is misrouted.
Fuel vacuum system is misrouted and probably cross-connected to the accessory vacuum system.

Seller: You need to start over. I suggest that you withdrawn this auction and spend some time with the 928 community. Avail yourselves of the 928 community's knowledge. Compare and contrast this GT's engine with picture of properly-done engines. There are countless pictures of what a 928 GT's engine bay should look like and many detailed tech docs on the tasks.

Have not seen your post, yet, @worf

Here is my pending BaT post:
(Edit: Now that it posted, it serves two purposes 1) the stated purpose, and 2) interested buyers can also readily compare some roughly equivalent 928's. It was @worf's idea to reference well done motors, so, at least we kinda got that part in!)

BaT seems to be becoming a typical "used car dealer" but with lots of hype.
By linderpat

Holy Chit - the history of that GT on BaT was just updated by a prior owner - I'd consider this car nearly radioactive at this point. It was put back together by Beverly Hills Car Club, maybe one of the shadiest dealers on the planet. Explains a lot. This car has been severely butchered, and the mileage seems suspect too, based on the comments. Yikes!

With that '90 GT's auction nearing its end, it seems obvious to me that BaT must be routinely censoring posts that cast a bad light on an auction.

BaT is a sellers market now and no better than ebay or the typical shyster used car salesmen.

I don't understand the question. I have no questions about the engine bay.

I have observations about the engine bay that BaT censored.

In short: the seller has dipped a rancid pig in lipstick and BaT is censoring posts that attempt to point it out.

New owner is going to have a stroke if he brings that to one of the 928 people that know what they are doing.

I probably wouldn't touch that unless it's a motor out jobs.

Well a first for me,
the falling off fuel pump cover, and the convoluted fuel supply line,
it looks like the line will leave an impression in the hood.
that car is a mess,
I would tell him to read the FAQ on RL before he spends another dollar.

It sure is strange that so many airfilters are put on upside down.
This Gray GT is a shit show of the finest caliber..
As good as it feels to say something on BAT,
the new owner is eventually gonna find out.

Interesting car with all the GTS mods to a '89 GT. Kinda cool.
No. Not all the mods. No GTS rear quarters and that's what really makes a GTS stand out body-wise. No big GTS brakes. No '91+ "fat" shift knob. Meh... really just the apron and wheels.

GTS rear apron just means that it was hit in the rear after '95-ish when Porsche started only stocking aprons with the impression for the full-width reflector.

Still '89 S4 5-speed is a rare beast and is arguably better than an GT in a narrow context.

That one looks to have not been too messed up. It does need proper fuel lines. And the engine air filter is upside-right at least. Interior work is not top-notch.

$40k is optimistic perhaps. And not well-presented.

GTS wheels are easy. I've got a set on my '91. And there's an '87 in the shop right now with those wheels.

The 'fat' shift knob can be purchased from PAG. It's a great upgrade.

But, For me, it's the GTS's ass that makes it a GTS.

Whenever I see the GTS rear apron on a pre-late-'93 I know - almost certainly- that it was hit in the rear.

Very few people would go through the trouble voluntarily.

That Amazon GTS that was just RNM on BaT originally had a "non-reflecty" rear. 'cause it's a '92. (aka early-'93)

I have(*) a picture of it from 1999(-ish) with the original rear apron.

(*) But, I probably can't find it.
