The Cayenne's A/C system started acting up the day before yesterday. It was about 92 degrees and pretty uncomfortable not having air conditioning. The rear unit would blow air but the front was doing nothing. After pressing every button on the console related to A/C it finally turned on.

I had replaced the blower motor back in 2019 so I could have sworn it was something else as I didn't think it would fail again in less than 5 years. The one I purchased was a VDO/Bosch unit so really surprised.

I ended up purchasing an AC Delco unit from a local Autozone and it went right in without incident. After I plugged it in, everything worked perfectly.

But my question is, should this thing have failed so quickly?

I replaced a lot of blower motors on 3-5 year old Cayennes at the dealer, so I'd say it's not too out of the ordinary. At least they're easy to replace!

On my 2009 957 mine went out during a summer trip from LA to Phoenix, it ran on low speed just enough to keep us alive in the evening (still warm out). AFAIK it was the original fan. Don't also forget to check out/replace the motor speed resistor pack - that too can fail. It was surprisingly inexpensive easy to replace, less than 45 minutes.
