Really not bad. But question for the forum.

I’m calling the one that came off the original. It’s got a metal outer collar.

In my pre removal pics, it’s flush with the block.
The new seal is 10mm thick.
The old is 12mm thick.
The space between the inner lip on the block and the outer face of the block is 14mm.

My question becomes, if I place this gasket flush with face of the block… it may not be deep enough to cover the notch used to remove seal.
So drive new seal to 2mm inset from face or just drive it till it hits the inner lip?
I’m guessing both options ok but trying not to be an idiot.

I'd measure the difference to the drain holes and try not to cover those.

Follow up for the record.
Main seal wanted to set itself at 2mm into block face.
Which corresponds to original position of factory seal.
With further inspection the channels also have communication with breaks in the inner lip, I assume to facilitate draining.

Should be fine. If you look (at your pictures) closely, it's not possible to completely cover the drains. Logically, if the factory seal was 12mm and the new seal is 10mm think and 2mm inset, then the new seal is no deeper than was the factory seal.

Look at your old FMS and see if you see any indication of manufacturer.

No markings on old one but looks like genuine Porsche with metal collar retail 62 usd.
