when Porsche found they had oil usage issues with the GTS and they fitted new engines, did the engines come with an engine number stamped into the block ?
or did they used to just put a block with pistons and crank etc in and would that come with an engine number on the block ?
cheers
Phil

IIRC the block stamp was different for warranty-replaced engines. I don't recall specifics. But, on TOS, there's a least one thread discussing it.

If you find the answer on TOS, post it here. :beerchug:

thanks Dave looked on TOS, via google search as TOS has to have the worst search engine ever.
reading the posts it looks like complete engines usually but not always, got a stamping of some kind.
but a short motor / block got nothing stamped on it.
i have not actually seen the block, but hopefully will get a picture of it just to check its not just been filed off.
if i get any warranty history from it to confirm anything i will post on here.
cheers
Phil

My understanding is that warranty replacements were complete engines. Not short or long blocks.
