Odometer

This is a cross post from TOS as well. Problem - my odometer suddenly stopped working on the way to Carlisle last weekend. Note - I replaced the gear about a year ago. I have the unit out, on the bench, and I can hand spin the shaft from the little motor that drives the gear, and the speedometer moves. I didn't add a spacer when I did the gear, but I don't think that is the issue. Everything seems nice and tight.
Is there a way to bench test it? The speedometer works fine. This is just the odometer and the trip odometer.

I haven't done this on a 928, but I bet it's similar to Mercedes odometers of the same era. Open it up and see if the odo/tripmeter gears are intact. If they are, but you can spin the gear that drives the tenth of a mile on the tripmeter, it's separated from the shaft, and can often be resecured with a drop of Loc-Tite.

If the Merc units are VDO made like the PAG units, then that -^ seems a very good guess as all the VDO units seem to have the same failure modes across marques.

Fixed, but not sure why. I suppose even though everything was nice and tight, by spinning the wheel on the bench, whatever hung it up got unhung. Or maybe it was cleaning grounds, or Deoxit the contacts, or just jostling things. I'll never know for sure, although if it stops again, I'll know it was mechanical and will add the little washer/spacer to the odo ger shaft per Dwayne's write up.
Also got my electrical hatch release issue resolved. That was fixed by fixing the glove box light, since there is a shared circuit.
Still to do - fix the oil pressure gauge. I replaced the sender last year - no joy. Chased the wires from the 14 pin to the sender, all ok. Put in a new unit, and still no joy. Maybe a crack in a solder line in the foil?
