991.1 steering wheel swap..... has anyone done one?

Looking at a car with the ugly thumb button multi function wheel..... want to swap to sport design.

Any help guys? Possible? Pain in the rear? I just can't get myself to live with that ugly steering wheel, it's what you see every time you get in the car.......

Yes. It has been done A LOT. (Not by me.) TOS has many threads.

IIRC, as long as the ‘doner’ car has the same pertinent options(*) then it’s a straight swap. However, it is rare enough that one should expect some issues.

* which are:
- NO multifunction wheel to be tossed. Must have shift buttons only.
- Sport Chrono on both or neither

Obviously, I assume we’re discussing PDK.

If the existing wheel is an MF wheel, you will need the “kit” that comes with the MF stalk and wiring or you will loose the ability to manipulate the MFD. But, I don’t think recoding is required: you just have to disassemble part of the column to install the bits.

A SportChrono mismatch may or may not be resolved via coding,

This guy may be able to help you. Best pricing I’ve seen. Thinking about picking up a 991.2 steering wheel for the 997RS. They started making them smaller diameter after 997 gen.
