Phil, this is a good idea.

I would suggest one post per part though for “Thread Rules.”

For the little threaded mount for radiator hold-down… I have never found a part number for it.

A long time ago I had an S4 come in with that and the hold-down missing. This was 15 years ago so my memory may be off. But, I remember looking for the part number and eventually giving up and finding someone that was just about done parting-out a 928 and had them cut those bits off.

For the jack bag, I'd ask Brian Wasserman (Olmann on RL). He's the go to interior guy, and could tell you what the material is, and make one for you too.

You need one to strip it of hardware for a rebuild with the non-‘stretchy’ material?

If you are looking for concours then, as of a year or four ago, PAG had commissioned a run of new ones. In black. IIRC. If you need to know the price then they aren’t for you though. (~$1500.)

928-555-179-02-70G is the part number for black.

Thanks Dave, I’m not looking for hi end, just to cover things in the back so that prying eyes can’t see. A stock cover is fine. I’ll check out that Woodypeck site.

I’m pretty sure that’s how it looked. All silver. OTOH, Porsche may have had a “painted crest” option for the key head.

I have - I seem to recall - a NOS key head on the shelf. It’s ~25 years old. If I don’t forget, I’ll snap a picture of it.

I still think plain silver was original. But, memory is a tricky thing.

looking at a coloured one the parts in red have been dug out and then filled with red enamel.
the plain versions are flush with the rest of the crest, so must be original.

5sp rear shifter coupler bushing replacement...for those who have done one.

Do I need to drop the exhaust then the heatshield to most easily pull the coupler for a bushing replacement? It looks doable, barely, with it all in place but is removing the exhaust and heatshield worth the additional aggravation? I have to do this in the driveway as my lift is blocked by 2 immovable cars at the moment. I've got lots of rusty bolts holding the exhaust together and I don't want to go down that rabbit hole just yet. Somebody has been in there before me as the bellows is entirely missing.

I seem to recall doing this job on several occasions by unscrewing the center and rear left/right heat shields and then scooching them out of the way. It’s mostly the center shield that gets in the way.

It is also possible that I did that first and then decided it wouldn’t work and pulled the exhaust.

But, no time is lost trying it that way.

That's a good place to start. The heatshield screws are in far better condition than the exhaust bolts so I'll start there. Thanks Dave.

Your initial instinct was right on the money. Heatshield removal was sufficient. Got it loose but not out. With the pinch bolt and grub screw out, still stuck on the splines on the shaft.

EDIT: It's out. I somehow missed the part where I was supposed to put the shifter in 1st

The 01 is superseded by the 03. As with all supersessions of Porsche parts, some are fine, some are ‘meh’ and some don’t work at all, ever. It isn’t a recent supersession. Nothing I have will point to the original application year of the 01.

Someone maintaining PET 5 on Windows XP would need to look up that 01 number to be sure.

But with all those caveats? Yeah, I think it will work just fine.

the last 2 numbers of a 928 part number are usually the version of that part.
i guess they would start with 00 when they designed the part

92861512400 was i think up to early 80's
01 would have been what would have been in your car when new, so as long as its a good one, its got to work
03 is the latest version of the same relay, as Dave says, who knows what has changed inside it, if anything, it SHOULD work and probably will

while on part numbers if you have 2 parts on the bench i.e 928 341 389 03 and 928 341 390 03 and need to know which side of the car they fit, 389 is ALWAYS the drivers side in a LHD car and 390 is the passenger side.
i.e whatever the numbers the lowest number is ALWAYS the drivers side on a LHD car

if that makes sense

how much are sports seats worth at the moment?

don't want to give them away, and not in any desperate panic to sell them.
just the 4 way electrical adjustment and no heating
electrical switches need replacing but motors good.
no damage to any piping, no splits or tears anywhere, just need a good clean
just std leather not the ruffled type

There exist lists of people waiting for 928 manual sport seats.

I have no idea what they are worth.

But, if you thoroughly clean them up, get them working and put them on BaT you’ll find out.

That’s as good a guess as any. Here’s another data point: the tag on my ‘91 GT’s original radiator.

Electroplated. With the iridescent yellow/gold finish.

And that plating which was as resilient to the elements as cadmium and as resistant to tooling marks as zinc but was *not* cadmium is knowledge lost to the ages and environmental regulations.
