I had a friend who bought a Mazda SUV and had only great things to say about it for the 3 months he owned it.

Then without warning he ended up trading it in for another Mercedes like he used to own before the Mazda.

So they're probably really good for what they are but still leave a bit to be desired from a luxury and/or performance perspective.

Always liked Mazda. (Back in the Rotary days)

My dad and I bought my mom an RX-4 5 speed wagon.

I wouldn't count Mazda out. I was as surprised as anyone to find myself cross-shopping the CX-90 with BMW and Audi. The nicer trims of the Mazda are more comparable to the Euro cars than the other Asian choices like the Pilot and Highlander.

Most of the mainstream options are FWD-based vehicles with a 4cyl while the CX-90 is RWD-based with an I6 turbo. It might not fool everyone but it's $20k cheaper than the German options.

Only reason I didn't consider it further was because I needed a car sooner than later, and the local Mazda dealer inexplicably closed right while I was shopping.

My wife and I test drove CX-90 a few months ago and they are very nice vehicles. It's getting tougher to differentiate between brands from the driver's seat without seeing the badging. In the end, we decided not to buy anything new yet, but still like Mazdas a lot. They seem to actually value the driving experience.

I would have bought a Mazda6 6mt instead of the 535 I ended up with if it came in AWD.

The new CX90 looks very, very nice.

Mazda has done great with what they've had to work with. I don't see why anyone would look down their noses at Mazda but get excited about a rebadged VW for twice the price... there's a lot to like about Audi but it's not like the parts bin engineering is a secret.

I owned an Rx-7 in '82. I LOVED that thing. My daughter's first car she purchased on her own was a Mazda 3. They are great cars! Don't think they deserve to be mentioned alongside million dollar autos but for the money they are hard to beat.
