Have an issue with my 2008 GL320.

I replaced the AIr-Matic pump, but when I went to start the car it gave me a "ABS/EPS Inop" error.
The car run for about 5 seconds (about 10 beeps) and shut off (like it was shut down normally).
Restarting the car gave me the same results (tried about 10 times.)
The car did not rise, but I think that might have been because there was not enough time.

I read the codes and had 2
6001-00 ABS Supply Voltage too low Stored and MIL on.
5995-00 ABS Temperature Service brakes.

I cleared the codes and they did not come back, but still have the same symptoms.
Care runs like normal but only for about 5-6 seconds.
Car shows ABS/ESP Inoperative.
No new codes, these codes did not come back.

I put the car on a charger just in case it is just a weird low battery thing.
Will be trying again tomorrow.

Could the car sitting low trip an ABS/ESP error?

Could the ABS/ESP (or sitting low) be a condition where that car shuts itself off since it is not safe to drive?

Dad said it's hard to diagnose (as you figured) just by symptoms but said it's possible there could be an electrical fault somewhere causing these issues.

Any luck with charging the battery? I know on my Cayenne when it was weak it caused all kinds of strange issues.

VAG cars are worse, but MBs also don't like low batteries.
Charged it up and it started the car 10 or 15 times in a row.
Since the ABS/ESP was the error shown, I put a voltmeter on the main ABS fuse.
It gets power a second or two after the engine starts. As soon as it gets power the car shuts down.
Guessing lots of modules get powered up at the same time.
My next test is to pull that fuse and see what happens.
Maybe tonight as this was my yesterday.
SIL's dune buggy is entering restoration.
Should be a fun project.
The womenfolk are already arguing about the color it should be. :drink:

Try taking the battery out and having it tested at you local parts place. If it is good you have eliminated the easiest fix.

I would agree if there was any variability to the issue.
It is 100% consistent, and shows no other low voltage or bad battery symptoms.

Well, I got the ThinkDiag and it is pointing me in the direction of the new pump being bad, even though it seems to work.
I run the pump and the rest of the airmatic system through the tests and it works just fine.
If I have the ThinkDiag in Airmatic test mode that car runs (But the system is locked out waiting for commands from the Think Diag)
If I make the pump cycle the engine shuts down.
Tomorrow I am going to check voltages to see if the pump is pulling tooo much current, but I doubt it since the fuse has not blown and I have run the pump up to a full minute.
Maybe an internal short between one of the power leads and the other line (sensor or control)

Finally found a thread discussing th8s exact problem.
Seems a bad compressor will occasionally burn a trace in the fuse box (unintentional fuse).
Opened the fuse box, found the trace burnt, soldered in a jumper.
Reinstalled fuse box and all seemed well, till I got about 5 blocks from home.
Car died. Says do not change gear.
Will not restart and locked in Park.
Fuck, fuck, FUCK!
Guess it is time to have it towed to MB.
I feel like Sid! ;)

Ever get it figured out?

According to the MB dealer, my non-mb Airmatic pump caused the fuse box to burnout.
They said it killed another one they installed, so I ended up having to let them put in a new pump.
It took 3 months and when they told me what part they were waiting on, I ordered one from Amazon and had it in a week.

Makes you wonder what source the Amazon guy has that the dealer can't tap into themselves.

Glad you were able to figure it out!
