In the process of a top end refresh. Is this the factory Oil Baffle or an after market? It's not Stainless Steel. Any reason not to reuse it?

Aftermarket.
I would re-use it.
And take what GB said on the other channel as sour grapes;)

Going to go against the grain here. It's aftermarket and I'd re-use it.

Looks like the red was a liquid applied gasket/sealant. Should I remove this and do the same? Can I get new gaskets for it instead?

Based upon color it was Permatex Ultra Copper. And yes you need something to take it’s place.

Over the years I’ve come to the conclusion that Permatex works better than the factory’s rubber gaskets

Options: Permatex, Drei Bond, Bespoke gasket. IIRC the OE gasket for the metal filler neck is integrated with the ‘grill’ and has been NLA for a long time. But, I don’t get enough pre-‘88s to be sure.

Given that only two bolts fasten the filler neck, I think a long term solution involves sealant.

Loctite 5900 is another option.

Yeah --^ that's probably very good. The dealer techs are using that to seal timing chain covers on the Macans after the aluminum cover bolts break from stress.

I should add that to my palette :)

It even comes in the handy caulking-gun size...

The only thing I front like about the baffle is how thick it is. The top steel plate is very thick. Once you add the gaskets, a lot of space is taken.

Well, there were two gaskets there when we took it off. A grey rubbery one between the block and baffle. The red between the baffle and filler neck. I'll do the same when I reassemble, so thickness wont matter.

I'll be doing more cleaning of parts today and getting a list together for Roger. I'll call you this week Ed.
