This could be a hoot! Or more likely a death trap. What every Solstice needs - a turboed LS7 putting 750hp to the wheels. Hard to believe that someone sank $143K into this, not including the cost of the donor car.

It was a gorgeous car, but wow, that sale price!
I'm sorry, I don't care it had ultra low mileage, that's an insane price. As much as I wouldn't mind 996 values going up (I own an '02 996) I just don't see it. 996's may be slowly creeping up in value but they just aren't big dollar cars (sorry Fernando and Mike). Yes, it's a Porsche but it's just a mass produced car. I think bidders on BAT are sometimes like bidders at the high end auctions (yes, I know BAT is an auction). People get caught up in the moment and the desire to win and beat the other guy.

Now, if someone wants to give me about half that selling price, I'll sell you mine.

Wow! That's a whopping price. I think if you actually have an RSR, then worth it, but otherwise, not so much.

Crazy price for James Dean's 550 transaxle. Show piece or does this thing get installed on a 550?
fascinating reading for sure. Funny how a lot of people are offended by the notion of it. It's just a simple curiosity to me, and certainly not worth that kind on money as a collectable. Anyway, to each his own.

I'd say that it stays a show piece. It's already set up for display and I question the appeal of an old 550 with this transaxle, but what do I know? It's worth whatever someone is willing to pay and maybe there's somebody out there that would pay an additional $250K for a 550 with the James Dean transaxle.

That is some serious coolness right there. That truck was built down the street from meet at Detroit Speed (really a town over in Mooresville, NC.)

I'm such an ass. Someone has listed a '97 993S on BAT, on which I commented. The seller promptly said I was taking a "dump" on his car in the comments section. :roflmao: It's has had two accidents, one of which apparently required some frame work and it has a color change repaint. Seller says it has a "clean" title. Not sure how it can have a clean title with significant body work including center frame repair.....oh wait, Florida.......that's how.
Hope it's not someone here on whose BAT listing I've taken a "dump".

well, technically, it can have a "clean" title but awful crash history. Title is a legal concept, and crash history is a fact matter. Titles can and do contain fact history, but a car can still have a clean title with significant history. The role of a title is to indicate ownership, not state of condition.

Agreed, but there's also a reason cars get a Branded or Salvage title. Given the description of the 1st accident I'm just surprised it has a "clean" title. Although it is being sold in a state known for washing titles (Florida).

Not sure why. As long as ownership was not transferred related to the accident (such as the insurance company declaring it a total loss), the title should be unaffected.

It is a mad, mad, mad world out there :hitfan:

Looks like a hole in the front bumper above the plate mounting holes. Buying sight unseen should have a discount not a 20% over market price IMO. Just waiting for all the folks to start to have to fork out maintenance costs and repairs to make things "right" and end up dumping it to get rid of the headache.

Yeah...don't think this one won't ever be "right"...

The Carfax report lists two accidents, with one incident between 2005 and 2007 that is said to have required a replacement nose section, rear sheet metal, and center tunnel sheet metal. The second event reportedly involved damage to the left rear in October 2015. The seller notes poor fitment of the driver’s door, loose headlight washer nozzles, inoperable windshield washers, a failed rear window seal, various paint chips, and cracks in the finish on the rear bumper.

^^ Incredible sale price. I guess if one wants to sell a car, BaT is the place to sell. It does seem as if things on BaT often bring exceptionally high prices.

I really have a thing for the E30 M3. I was fortunate to instruct an owner of one, many years ago. What a great machine.

My first exposure (as a driver) to the 944 was also while instructing. I've owned many since then. My S2 would never bring big money, but it always put a smile on my face. Hope to fix it up so my wife can take it over...

That other one was museum quality, 3k mi and went for $100k. Probably one of the finest examples on the planet. I can understand that.
But THIS one, 141k mi, not close to stock, sunroof doesn't work, and not even S-spec? Now THIS is overinflated.

Those red 951 auctions were interesting.

The first, simply because it was a mint, low mileage highly desirable example that went for insane money - $135,944! Pervious high for one these on BaT was $80K for one with 2,400 miles on it.

The second because there were only 4 bids placed. On Jan 4th, the first day of the auction, the eventual buyer took it to $29K from the previous high bid of $22.5K. Perhaps because the other, mint one was already at $80K at that point. In the end the 2nd one got no more bids and sold for that $29K bid.

Even at more than $100K cheaper than the one that sold the day before, $29K is exceptional money for one with 141,000 miles on it.

I do like BaT's chart that lets you track all the results for each model that they've auctioned. Here's a screenshot of the 951 values:

This 2017 Aston Martin V12 Vantage S is one of 100 examples produced for the US market with a 6.0-liter V12 paired with a seven-speed dogleg manual transaxle, and it was purchased new by the current owner from Cleveland Motorsports in North Olmsted, Ohio. The car is finished in Stratus White over black leather, and equipment includes carbon-fiber trim, carbon-ceramic brakes with yellow-finished calipers, 19″ wheels, automatic climate control, a Bang & Olufsen audio system, and an AMi III infotainment system. This V12 Vantage S has 1,900 miles and is offered on dealer consignment with a window sticker, service records, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Ohio title.

Reserve not Net on that V12 Vantage at $213K. One of the few vehicles that hasn't gone for big bucks recently.

Jalopnik had a story today about a BaT auction that closed yesterday where someone paid $55,000 for a low mileage 2000 F350 Dualie Cab & chassis. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2000- ... r-duty-20/

As well, I was blown away when a 1979 Trans Am sold for $52,000. While I happen to think that era of the Firebird with the bulbous rubber nose is the ugliest they ever made, I might be able to understand it if this was some rare bird. But it's not. It has the "Bandit" paint job and T-tops, but other than that, it's a low optioned example. It's a automatic with the Olds 403 in it and no WS6 handling package. If it had a Pontiac 400 and a 4 speed, I might be able to understand it, but not for this bird.... https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1979- ... ans-am-81/

I know used cars are hard to come by, but right now, BaT is typically a gold mine for sellers.

Currently 3 cars on BaT with bids over $1 million. Add to that a Mercedes 300 Gullwing that just got listed today and is already at $900K. It's one of many cars that have have been sold on BaT by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway museum. Not sure if they've had to sell off a bunch of their collection to keep the doors open but it's kind of sad to see them dispose of so many cars. They've listed a real eclectic mix of vehicles, most of them not too pricey, but they did get $1,35M for a 1935 Duesenberg last summer.

Here's a link to the list of cars that they've sold on BaT:

When you only pay 5k for your sale, it’s a huge bargain in the 1m price range. 100k or 5k, you be the judge. BaT has earned their position.

Not really, the 959 bid says "BID TO $810,000 ON 9/28/16"
