What's the hive seeing in terms of 911/356 pricing? My observations.....

356's-dunno
long nose-pricey
G50-resonable, seem to be holding steady
964-stupid
993-leveled out, unless S or Turbo
996-getting the attention they deserve, prices have gone up, but leveling out to be appropriate.
997-base and S are getting expensive and harder to find, turbo's seem to be the sweet spot.
997.2-commanding 991 prices
991-my cut-off, pricing seems appropriate, may even find a good deal
992-no clue, out of my realm....and BIG.

991s are going up in value. Prices are crazy, if you can even find one. Super low inventory and a Stop Sale campaign since November that prevents dealers from selling most of them. None of these can be sold by a dealership:

$17k for the 964 back in 2009
$27k for the 993 again in 2009

Instead spent my $26k on the same 996 I have today. Granted it's been a wonderful car but not quite the financial windfall of the other two.

Fernando, since you've enjoyed your 996, don't look back with regret. Enjoying a 911 is not about trying to make money on something you think will be a good future investment.

amdavid - I gave up on trying to predict or even understand what happens with 911 pricing and values. I can understand long hood cars increasing in value over time. And later air cooled 911's have gone up as one would expect. 996 prices seem to be increasing gradually for really nice examples, but I think a well-used 996 is going to be a bargain for a long time. After all, Porsche made a bazillion of them. and even though they are fun cars (I own a streetable track 996) we all know they have their faults.

What I don't understand is why 997's prices , in particular, seem to be going up. I have, at times, actually considered selling my '97 993S Tip to buy a 997.2. But I've owned my 993 since 1999. When it comes down to it, I'm not sure I could actually part with it. But my point is I didn't buy the 993 as an investment and I wouldn't look at a 997 as an investment either. My motivation is - I rarely drive the 993, but I think I would drive and enjoy a 997.2 much more. My fantasy is my 993 going up in value to equal a good late model 997 GT3. Then I would definitely make a change.

991 prices seem to be steady, but they are still relatively new. I admit I don't know much about 991's or 992's as they don't really interest me.

It generally takes about 20-25 years before a potentially collectable car starts to increase in value. I don't have a crystal ball on future 911 values. So it's just a bunch of my random thoughts and "IMHO's". YMMV.

You're right and fact is with all of the miles I put on this 996 (I'm at just under 180k miles on it) the other two cars wouldn't have been the big paydays that I keep hearing about. Better to abuse something that is more common than those that are more sought after.

Plus this 996 really is the perfect vehicle for my needs. I needed something bigger with working A/C, relatively low maintenance (I've heard oil changes in a 993 are a huge pain), versatile, and with a decent amount of power. I know the air cooled 911s offer all of that, and more, but for a daily driver I think I made the right choice.

All that said, one day I will have an air-cooled in my garage just for fun drives.

I'd like to buy a well cared for 997 with some miles for 30-35k. 5 years ago that was possible, not sure it is today.

I think you can get a nice early 997 turbo for close to the same amount of dough as a .2 S. That's kinda my plan after I sell the 930.

Yes, you're right. Turbos are great, but I would want a normally aspirated .2 S.
