Attempting to deal with the death of engine end of the front ABS/ brake pad harness connection.
This is an 86.5.
The cost of replacement does not appeal.
There are aftermarket barrel connectors but also fairly pricey.

My question would be, with simple wire tracing for continuity and simple insulated butt or bullet connecting, what pitfalls would there be?

I found a thread on RL saying there is shielding, but there is nothing apparent on autopsy on mine. Just the wires and the stupid nylon threads.
The harness is grounded in engine bay and wheel.
The ground into the barrel on mine has a bullet crimp but doesn’t seem to do much except run down the harness.
S4 must be different?
6wire? There’s a pic on end showing the third port used, that I don’t have used on the 86.

Well, it'll certainly cost you points at your next concours... :lol2: :order:

Oh, you mean functional? None as long as you don't get wires crossed or get your #$%& caught in the crimper.

I have never seen shielding (hope I didn't post on TOS that it was shielded...)

The OE outer sheathing for 90+ was far more robust than that which preceded it but all the connectors that plug in to the "barrel" connectors are prone to crumbling with age.

The 6-wire harnesses add two wires for RDK. The 6-wire harnesses were cheaper at one point. You can use a 6-wire harness in a 4-wire car and nothing will care.

But all *you* really need is ABS which is two wires.

Thanks Dave.

Yeah that’s a plan.
No cosmetics needed.

No, it was someone else. But other wise reputable source. Thank you for the clarification.

Appreciate it Sterling. I bought one of those actually ahead of time but went with least effort.
