According to the technical specification booklet the tank has to be full, spare wheel and took kit in the trunk too (DIN 70020).

And if you want it ‘perfect’ weight equal to your(*) fat ass in the driver’s foot well.

* The Royal ‘You’, as in, not *you* but all of us except for those of us that couldn’t stand to lose a few pounds, in which case they can be offended.

I was on my way to fill up today, and my 2 year old Bosch 044 pump died enroute, leaving me stranded on the side of the road. After getting flat bedded back home, I plugged in the laptop, and found that fuel pressure was a measly 27psi and it was running very lean, so I decided to upgrade to an AEM pump that is a higher output and is E85 compatible. I'll have to re adjust my fuel pressure regulator but I should be back on the road tomorrow, I hope. I have an alignment appointment on Wednesday.

Have you upgraded the wiring to it? Or is it still the stock wires?

Is there a need to upgrade?

Yes I upgraded the wiring and put a fused relay in the hatch area that is directly powered by the ECU.

The factory wire diameter is indeed too small to support the original 044 pump. Its borderline for the more efficient newer FP200-7 model.

As sterling suggested, there are more efficient drop-in aftermarket pumps from both AEM and Deatschwerks that fit the cradle and are modern fuel compatible.

It is claimed the new Bosch pump is more compatible, but has reduced life with ethanol/oxygenated fuel. It draws approximately 9.5a of current at stock pressure and 13.5v. In a standard forced induction application of 12psi, the pump draws approximately 11.5a.

Flow at that point is around 310lph, which is a bit lower than some would want for a margin, but it falls within the electrical parameters of the stock wiring.

looks like my failed pump is the FP200. It was installed in 7-2021 and has less than 2 hours of run time with 93 Octane pump gas. I had the pressure regulator set @ 55PSI.

In-tank pump is deleted with a strainer in place I assume?

Plans to autopsy the dead main pump?

Car hasn't had an in tank pump in 20 years. I did replace the factory hose fitting on the tank with the Murphy version with a bigger hose barb, as well as larger ID and a larger screen. It also has a larger fitting on the Fuel pump side as well. Tank was removed from the car, and aggressively scrubbed internally numerous times and rinsed out repeatedly so I know it was as clean as a new one. This was done when the new pump was installed in 2021. I write a date on the fuel filter when I install them.

new pump spec chart shows 12.2 amps when running @ 55PSI which is where I have it set. It also shows 388LPH (LIters per hour) at 55PSI, and could support 1130 HP at these numbers. Looks like it has plenty of buffer. These numbers are with gasoline, and I do plan on tuning with E85 at some point and I will need to switch injectors at that point as I only have 725cc injectors and there won't be enough margin for my taste. I do have a nice set of 1050cc Injector Dynamics injectors ready to go in. :)
