Ok gentlemen, fluff piece posted while I sit at the DMV and attempt to get Covid.

With boosted system, my IAT (air temp) runs 50-55 Celsius when run hard.
Current set up for SC intake grabs air from under car. Wrapped, but literally one centimeter from exhaust manifold. :(
New prototype fabbed this weekend.
Predictions?
My gut is no real change, but looks cool.

Can’t visualize where that’s going to get mounted. So, can’t opine on effect.

Having spent man-weeks, minutes at a time, over the last 15 years thinking about intake charge cooling, the best place for intercoolers seems to be the well under the head lights with air ingestion into the engine bay at the stock location. (Unless you like hood scoops…)

Routing the air… well, it is was it is given the constraints of the 928. Insulate as much a possible, but bigger better more-effective charge air cooling is money/time better spent. ImO.

Dave, traditionally I’m reluctant to post pics. Hart Motorsports has just had too many people rip off my designs over the years.
We are still in litigation over several copycats of the reverse drive supercharger that sucked air out of engine, which you may remember.

You are one of the people that I would sell to however, so I will post. Call my wife and let her know how many units you need.

Too tired for a snappy comeback on the undercharger :tongue:

That location is more or less where the oil cooler matrix is located on ‘90+. Those also get a ‘90+ front duct that directs air to the matrix. It’s effective when you are moving and the opposite of effective when stopped or in stop-and-go traffic.

So, in principle it’s a workable location. But, you do need to devise a means of directing/ducting air from above the spoiler to it. The front spoiler will direct away air from it and what’s left behind and under the spoiler will be turbulent and low(er) pressure. The ‘78 “clean” look without the “S” spoiler is a baseline but even there some ducting is required I think.

I like the looks of that. Would work well for the Murph car of Milrads. Would have to change the lower air duct/brace and spoiler to the later style that the GTS has for the oil cooler.

Hmmm. This would be my concern as well.

Still, I'm looking for anything better/cleaner than the filter behind the LH headlight and dryer hose to the SC I'm currently using.

However, I'm making enough power (521RWHP on the dyno). I need more engine cooling capacity. I think my intercooler heat exchanger, currently parked in front of the AC condenser (and new CSF radiator) is not helping. I'd like a clean way to put that elsewhere.

Intercoolers behind the head lights like Tumo did (and like are in the 911s - except they are HEX for A/C and cooling.)

Have to modify the bumper cover and stuff.

But, yes, I agree and have the same problem with my Twin Screw: it could really use some HEX relocation and more matrix area.

Objective data finally:

Prior highway cruising air temp. 54 Celsius /130F
New highway cruising air temp . 30 Celsius/86F

Prior Big boost air temp. 66 Celsius/150F
New Big boost air temp. 49 Celsius/120C

Collant temps. are equal for both setups at 81C/177F

7 Kpa higher today at big boost (3800 rpm is around 5 psi for this car), but ambient temps were different. Today ambient was 5 Celsius/41F vs. previous ambient 22 Celsius/72F -- so all the above is subject to that as well.

My logs for July w/o intercooler and the old intake were: 89C /178F coolant temp. and 70C/158F air temp.
Looks linear with ambient but some improvement overall.
Appears normal driving manifold temps adjusted for ambient are 11 percent cooler with new intake.
Big boost manifold temps look the same when adjusted for ambient.
