I'm still fixing and improving the brakets that 928MS sold for their 6 speed conversions.

the problems with the bracket were:

Bracket physically hits transmission tail housing between the trans and diff
Bracket was only welded on one side where most of the pieces were fitted together. Large gaps on the unwelded side where rust was starting to form
rattle can finish was worn off on edges due to poor materials or application.

I had it sandblasted and I cut out a section of a cross tube where the contact was a problem.

If you look closely at the above picture you can see the gaps.

I found a local place that was able to weld it up and actually box it in from the top like it should have been done in the 1st place.

if anyone has one of these kits you will need to have this done as the way it was done by 928MS, it will rust and come apart at some point.

If their bonneville car was put together with the same quality, it will be a death trap due to the salt getting up into every crevice and amplifying the corrosion…….

Shocking, that the part design was not field tested prior to sales;)

I did hear they had field tested a kit to keep a car from catching fire in their shop :hiding:

Technically Yes. Lol.

Or maybe they sold the kit after the “fire”.
You know, just in case the guy wanted to bring his smoldering car back for more maintenance Sterling.

Noted and thank you.
I will examine mine tomorrow (wet here today)

Is it easy to remove, repair and re-install?
Please and thanks

if you have something to hold the trans up, you can drop the whole crossmember in one piece and leave the trans in place. you will need to support the lower control arms, and uprights, but it could be done without pulling all of that stuff out. make sure you have them add a piece to the top on each side to box it in and make it more strong. I had no idea Ray Charles was living in WS and doing fabrication for CC. The guys here in texas welded it up for under $200. I also notched the lower control arms to provide more clearance for the 335's on the back.

Got the trans bracket back from the powder coater and it looks really nice. When I took it into get blasted, I asked them if the bracket was powdercoated…. They laughed and told me it was baked on rattle can textured paint.

Here are some pics of assembled brackets with the rest of the parts.

Completed ready to install

I improved some of the attachment ears that came with the kit as well as upgraded to some more appropriate hardware.
Image

I redid my harness, and also did some clearancing on the case that I wanted to do on the T56 just to get rid of some of the flanges that are used for mounting points on other cars that the t56 used in

Differences between T56 & T56magnum/TR6060
Image

The T56 magnum has all of the internal parts of the TR6060. Wider gears, better syncrho’s, larger input shaft and output shaft and most importantly for me, the beefier internal shafts.

Since the output shafts are much beefier I also had the diff re splined for the larger output shaft and replaced the gears and bearings. Every possible part that could wear was worn out in the trans and the diff. I’m betting the original owner never changed the trans fluid or diff fluid. Either way I have a brand new trans and diff, along with a rebuilt torque tube.

Additional clearancing on the passenger side of the trans with a low profile reverse switch.
