I have been tossing around a couple ideas for something to add to the collection that offers a different driving experience from the current host of highly tuned 911's and the track ready Corrado and TT without spending crazy money. After checking out some more ALMS TT's that the girlfriend really liked but all were needing tens of thousands of dollars in lacking upkeep even with low miles. Having already done a restoration on a project TT in the past, decided to move onto something else. One of the other throught was to look at V8 Audi's, S8's, S5's, RS4's.

The RS4 was a good runner up being 6spd, but we already have plenty of manual fun cars a friend suggested a RS5. The B8 RS5 moved to the top of the list of cars to test out with this one being only an hour drive away. 2013 Ibis White RS5 had dealer service every 5k miles and only 2 owners, some small paint chips here and there but nothing too crazy for a 12 year old Audi, of course in Audi fashion the interior has held up remarkably well. Most of the car has received PPF which has held up quite well with the ceramic coat. Rear bumper could be re-done which should be on the list for spring.

The car came with the Bang & Olufsen sound system/Nav and Sport Exhaust in Black, 20" 5 Rotor wheels which I found surprisingly light. The only thing it did not get was the black optics package which would have been very nice on the white but that was not a deal breaker. There were several other cars that met the search with lower miles but 3 of them turned out to have reconstructed titles and one had a potential flood issue but was not recorded. So this one would be the one to pick up.

This was not my first rodeo with 4.2's with helping out a friend do just about every mod on his B6 S4 over the years.

First things on the list to tackle.
Broken pad wear sensor, appears with the new (8k miles ago) front rotors and pads that the routing of the pad wire might not have been correct. Quick shortening and re-connecting all good to go.

Next up is filter services/oil change and spark plugs:

The hour drive home with it on familiar roads was nice to get comfortable it quickly felt like home reminding me of my E39 Dinan 540, however more power and nimble on the back road sections. Looking forward to putting some miles on it and providing updates of road trips as this will be the perfect car to get away to the Cape or North Shore in comfort and with speed.

Nice.

On several occasions I came close to getting an S5 or RS5 of that vintage.

Thanks! Pretty sure all RS5's came with the sport diff. Already have an resonator x-pipe delete on the way for it :drink:

Yeah, was an option on the S5, wasn’t sure about RS. New pipes and a good intake make a ton of difference in sound on these as you definitely know. My buddy had an RS4 cab with the 4.2 and it was pure porn to drive with the top down.

Just a little more un-corked V8 should be perfect :beerchug:

I can only imagine on a RS5 Cabrio with a good exhaust :bigok:

Did order up the ECS center X-pipe that deletes the resonator, did you test that one out :beerchug:

I don't think they had finished that one when I left. They had about a hundred exhaust projects going on at that time.

Someone has to ask the real questions here: can you still get employee discounts? :beerchug:

:roflmao: Nope. I had friends there for a few years after I left that could still get me the discount, but now everyone I was close with has moved on to other jobs.

Just got the RS5 back from some maintenance work getting it ready for some summer road trips. Last of the main catchup maintenance was transmission filter/fluids/sport diff filters and fluids, carbon cleaning which had been done before which was in good shape. Lastly a fresh set of tires for the summer.

So far the girlfriend and I have put just under 1k miles on it with many more planned, the last "mod" in the short term is to update the outdated Audi 2G MMI unit with a modern unit with Apple Car Play for navigation and music. I have found myself gravitating to grabbing the keys to take it out for a blast here or there just to drive, which says a lot about a car in my experience.
