Pretty sure I've decided to replace my L322 Range Rover for something smaller, more fuel efficient, and.........less expensive to maintain/repair. I've looked at a number of smaller SUV's and keep gravitating back to the Tiguan. Found a local 2018, one owner, regularly serviced by VW, no accidents, etc. I looked at a couple of pre-2018's but they are about 11 inches shorter than the 2018+.
I like the clean lines of the 2018+ Tiguan as opposed to a RAV4 or CR-V - too many curves, angles, creases, lines, etc. But I don't want to buy on looks alone.

Anyone have experience with a Tiguan, pro or con? (not interested in a Toureg or similar sized vehicle. Objective is to go a smaller than my full size Range Rover).

Baby doll leased an '18 from new. Appearance good, electronics good, general usability good. Powertrain awful. Underpowered, noisy, harsh, clunky low speed transmission behavior. The lack of power was evident from the start but performance wasn't really the point of this car so we didn't mind initially. The lack of refinement from the driveline was hugely disappointing and became more annoying over time. Was glad to throw the keys back to the dealer.

After reding your input above ^^, we took the Tiguan for a 2nd longer test drive. Granted it didn't have the power of my 360 or Jag XK (or any of our other cars), but it was plenty sufficient for daily driving. This particular Tiguan had just had new tires installed and the ride and handling was also just fine for its intended purpose. We didn't find it harsh or clunky at all. I had decided to buy it. Then.............

The dealer let us keep it overnight as I told him we needed to see if my wheelchair would fit in the back. What a disappointing kick in the pants. It would not go in the back upright. It would fit if laid on its side, but that makes for a difficult load/unload for my wife or me. I need a 33 inch height opening to get the chair in upright, and the Tiguan's opening was only 30 inches. So, we won't be getting it. Guess we'll take a tape measure with us next time.

Therefore the search starts anew, and I have no idea what to look for. The Range Rover will be staying for a while longer.

Maybe give the latest CRV a look? The newer one is better looking than the previous generation IMHO.

I think the Q5 might have the same problem as the Cayenne when it comes to height of entry in the rear compartment. It's spacious but might not be the height you need.

Worth looking into it though!

I think that's the potential issue with any mid-size SUV we consider. Next time we go to look at anything, I'm taking my tape measure to see if it's got a true 33" hatch clearance. Even if the interior cargo area height is 33+", it's the floor to the top of the hatch opening as measured vertically that is the challenge.
But I'm in no hurry. The Range Rover is fine until I find the right replacement.
