Just fishing for the story really.

My real impression was that Carl sold the business, but the outcome was in name only, and that party was essentially selling off his inventory and not actively producing new product.

Am I close to the truth here or not?

I’m curious because the web site is still up and my order (procharger mounting plate) shipped within 24 hours.

I have the same impression. I bought a motor stand adapter not long ago from them (earlier this year I think) and was talking with another fellow 928'er that also bought one after me and we believe we bought the last two.

Maybe whoever bought it is cooking something up and taking their time, who knows!

I won't expect to hear the real story, however, until after I attend one of those secret gatherings, give the 928 greeting, and partake of some variety of kool-aid. That reminds me - I need to start carrying my 928 Schmidt Card around! :eyepop:

I’ve heard you are being fast tracked.
it’s like Scientology, or potentially the Free Masons.
When you are ready, they will come and indoctrinate you to the next level. Be patient.

At higher levels Hernanca they will tell you… what oil IS actually the best.

That story is so long and convoluted it’s only fit to be told over beers, late at night, in a parking lot.

Big ask, but can you guys discuss the new SC kit as well?
Just saw GB pontificate so I’m expecting good theater.

One of my clients bought a 928 with the original kit installed on it. (Look back in the Random 928 Picture Thread for it.)

That version had at at least two major architecture fails. The execution of the installation (done by the developer) on the electrical side was 3rd-grade level.

There was no design accommodation for common aftermarket parts - radiator in particular.

There was no documentation for wiring, design, or spares/replacements.

I hope that whoever’s “doing it” now has learned some lessons.

I’d be happy to provide them with private feedback. You’ll note that only my post got no reply.

GB is right to question heat soak with extended use. He’s just doing it in a way that makes people want to ignore the issue out of spite.

Yes, and took a shot at Hans as well if you noticed.

More respect for him if he just said heat soak. Who ever runs even a boosted (much less N/A ) 928 at 6000 rpm for sustained periods?
George is a N of 1 and does not count here.

I’m going say from my experience that there will never be a SC kit (probably for any car) that drops in without extensive mods. So i question the new business venture, but would never shit on the concept.

If so go over there before it’s all taken down.
yes it can get very stressful very quickly over there, sad really, much easier to just get questions asked and answered on here and not worry about keyboard warriors with nothing better to do than call each other names etc.

I like the concept of this secret thread with in a thread.
The new supercharger kit: I don’t know. Now there’s disclaimers?
He hasn’t even fabricated or installed a kit.
From what I see, there’s a box of old Victor parts and some grandiose plans. Seemingly general, but not comprehensive knowledge of 928’s.
It just doesn’t give me a warm fuzzy.

So a drop in hardware kit is complete and for sale?

I feel like I’m missing something.

I want to believe that an entity would put super mega bucks into R&D for an obscure platform like a 928, but it’s hard to picture.
I do think there’s a market for aftermarket ECU conversion, as our old computers die off. I hope they stick with that idea.

I won’t comment on the Rotrex SC kit thread on TOS.

This exists already. Someone (who can name himself if he wishes) has been driving around on it for two years. It’s required for something else. Discussions about “production” for non-FI applications are ongoing.

Ok, to be fair I did research their website.
Now it makes more sense to me.
Looks like high end air cooled is the money maker with a dip into the transaxle market.

Recent posting not terribly surprising.
I think they are self realizing the challenges and pitfalls of marketing a plug and play on a 40 year old platform.
If they are worried that their kit be used on “older” engines… Uhmm.

I don’t know, I’m still getting this vibe that they think the 928 clientele is the same as those that own same period 911’s.

Quite clear to me that they have no clue about 928 engines and crank case breathing.

16v engines, even when ‘built’, if the CCB isn’t increased will puke oil when run hard.

32v engines are not fundamentally different as far as the short block is concerned.

Add boost and with stock CCB you’ll be more of an oil burner than gasoline burner.

IIRC many years ago, there was a discussion about this on TOS and (again) IIRC the conclusion was that forged pistons in an AluSil block - due to expansion rate differences - are simply not a recipe for the best cylinder sealing.

Let’s all recall Tuomo’s first motor: 80?-k-mile stock short block making 600-ish rwhp with no oil burning. But, lots of CCB capacity.

I became a believer in CCB when I forgot to secure the oil cap between dyno pulls. Holy sheet.

I don’t know about their engineering side, but I know at least one CCB disciple has talked to the frontman about breathing systems. But that was six months ago.
