I have the WSM set and there's no specific torque spec/procedure in my WSM for the '84 engine im working on. I know the order, but not the torque procedure.

Theres a very old post on the "other" forum, but with no agreed upon procedure. Do i follow the spec for a 32V?

I'm going to have to give up. The single 16v motor on which I've installed heads was done in 2012.

I've looked at my notes and messaged with the owner (who did most the engine rebuild without my help) and we can't dig up what we used.

I'm pretty sure I've never, ever done a 90° x 3 rotation on anything though. FWIW.

Way back in the mid '80's I was helping my father do a head job on a early 928 and we went to the dealership for some parts. The guy there asked my dad if he got the latest TSB about head torquing and he had not. They said it was revised to add the 3rd 90 degree spec. Had to tear it down again to do the final 90. I've done it a few times and didn't feel comfortable doing so so I started doing it with initial torque of 20ftlb with two 90 degree sequences. Have not had a failure yet doing it that way. I know Lizard931 does a certain torque number for them but don't remember what he is doing.

I dimly recall that that is what I did back in 2012. But, I wasn’t confident enough to recommend it without corroboration.

Thanks for the posts, gentlemen. The head studs have not been replaced with anything new by me, and I have no reason to believe this motor was ever apart until I did so. I AM using new nuts, and cleaned up original washers.

Found a guy (Todd Gibbs) channel on youtube who's restoring a 928. The engine episode where hes doing his engine he does the 20nm and X2 90's.

I think I'll stick to the 20 Nm and 2 stages of 90*.

The other torque specs are helpful as well, thank you.

Heads are on, and torqued to 20 Nm with 2 90 degree additions. A third 90 degree would be scary. I'm going to leave it at the 2.

the last 16v I did was done with 20nm then 2 x 90s I set the torque wrench to 85 ft/lbs and it clicked as the second 90 was reached on all the nuts .
No way i would do 3 X 90 turns unless you want to put helicoils into the block .
