I really haven’t had any complaints about the stock sway bar, but a DEVEK kit came up for sale recently and I felt the need to add it to my parts hoard.
I might have given BC some grief about the yellow shifter handle, so he slid it into my package to make it mine forever. I’m supposed to make it like an elf on the shelf apparently….
Has anyone used one of these units?
Looking for which end of the drop links interface with the bar and which end goes to the mounts. Note the difference size coupler on each end of the drop links.
And bonus question: bushings?
I was going to look at size appropriate bushings through summit for lack of a better plan.

You ending up with the yellow shifter is :lol2:

I know I have some modified suspension parts that the PO put on my car (I also put Devek adjustable Koni's with Hypercoils on it), but I wont see it again until Monday or Tuesday. I will take pictures, but I doubt I have the Devek sway bar.

I’m thinking the bigger end goes to the strut assembly but not sure.

I’m going to put the yellow nightmare on my shifter and post a pic on RL to see who bites.

Hey looking for input here.
The DEVEK system looks sturdier than stock.
DEVEK bar is 32mm compared to stock 28mm.
I was going to just set drop links to the stock length and go with it.
First decision is what to do with bushings. Got a set of energy suspension bushes. The brackets work but the profile of the bushes don’t. The stock bushes have that raised profile on the bottom to sit in the mounts.
Options of insert to make a flat surface?

Are you planning on reinforcing the mounts? The larger Devek bar has a reputation for ripping the mounts. I personally never had a problem with it on my former 90GT, but others have. There are some threads on the other site addressing this.

Yea, I probably need to if I’m this far in.
This was discussed n another thread here, but I have the 928 Motorsports re-enforcements but they would not work well on the drivers side because of the hard line for the clutch slave being incorporated into the back of the mount.
I was going to do Sean’s method of boxing it in.

Sway bar on.
There are a lot of variables with this set up.
I basically started with stock length drop link settings and worked back to mounts.
I can see why people were encouraged to reinforce the mounts, the whole system is more rigid than stock. No bushings on drop links and smaller harder bushes on mounts.
Was there more than one DEVEK sway bar option?
Meaning street, performance, track units or am I making that up?
I will try and get some impression of feel this weekend.

First test drive.
It’s interesting.
Tangible tighter steering in corners, but feels like it’s got more understeer going in to the turn.
I can feel a little spring back coming out of the turn which I like.
I’m going to have my pro guy do the final set up. I feel like I would waste time with trial and error.

That’s pretty much what happens when increase roll stiffness on the front and change nothing else.

Yes, you (I) read about this stuff but it seems abstract principles that don’t translate into the actual.
Then you find it really does influence dynamics, just like they say.
Several years ago I had put adjustable drop links on the back ( if memory serves it was a set either from Mr. Ott or a reproduction set by way of MJ Rocket).
I put those suckers on because, man they looked cool! A little oversteer, that sounds cool, the 911 guys swear by it.
Good god. The car was a mess. I pulled them off in haste.
They are here somewhere, in a box. Maybe I will have the pro look at that too.

I think having a little less pretension on the front sway bar is a good thing depending upon use.

Last year, for a client, I did a full-suspension resto on everything except the installed Weltmeister sway bar and coilovers. That one was set up with very little pretension and IMO that had a nice effect on how harsh the ride was on the Yankee Land roads where they are paved in potholes and patches on potholes are often worse than the potholes.

It had Welmeister progressive springs on Konis. Worked *very* well and wasn’t harsh.

Took me a while, but I finally got to see my car today so here's the front (and rear) sway bar pictures. Front doesn't look like that beautiful Devek bar, so that's not what I have. Don't know what I have - is it the stock (86.5 Auto) system or a Louie Ott front sway bar kit (if he made one)?

I believe the back has the Louie Ott drop links (phone was dying for those pics, sorry poor quality last pic).

Hadn't read this thread in a while or I would have measured the front sway bar diameter - I did not. My front mounts are not reinforced and even though I don't track the car, seems the right thing to do would be to reinforce those mounts.

All the red bars with multiple mounting holes at the end were made By ADDCO for 928Specialists. They had fronts and rears.
