I have batch of shifters coming in, including the well-know P9-MS01 fully adjustable lever for all years, and the P9-MS02 adjustable pivot clamp (also for all years).

In this batch is a run of the P9-MS03 non-adjustable front link delete for 87+ cars and a new short shift lever the P9-MS05.

The P9-MS05 lever is a new product. It has a fixed shortened throw and shortened knob height set to an ideal level relative to the factory (non-extended) cassette holder/armrest. It uses the most popular (and my preferred) pivot distance for a stock front link. This lever still uses the press-fit Igus Z-series self-lubricated bushings as its adjustable brother, but with the reduces machining is available at a lower price. It complements the P9-MS03 fixed height front link delete but works equally well as a direct replacement for the stock lever with no other changes.

Most of you already know the P9-MS01 lever and P9-MS02 pivot clamp. The lever allows you to infinitely adjust the shifter pivot (throw) and select several different knob heights. The clamp replaces the entire front link assembly and allows for the bearing car to be raised proportionally to the shifter pivot to keep the rear link parallel into tube to reduce binding at the transmission.

You miss the point I think? Hans’ gizmos remove the front ball cup and all its slop and failure modes. The lever is cake icing.

The “full monty” solution allows independent adjustment of shift throw and lever length. So, you could have a long stick and a short throw if you wanted. Or a short stick and a long throw.

I have been shamefully absent from the forum these last months, but I have to make a plug for this product...

Both of my cars have the P9-MS02, and I love the shifting feeling. Other than the Eibach/Koni shock set-up, it is the only other "tactually noticeable" modification to my cars. Although the 928 GT transmission (and clutch) are very heavy by modern standards, the set-up changes the interaction of the transmission to "heavy but precision machinery-like" instead of "some times vaguely tractor-like" as is the case with the stock set-up.

For the sake of pure enjoyment, I highly advise this product. My only minor concern is that my units were installed with the TT out. This was a breeze, and I doubt it will ever need maintenance. However, I think the disassembly with the TT in-situ could be difficult.

Hey Hans, I'm looking at one of your solutions for my GTS 5-spd conversion project. The front slide bearing on my spare parts is shot and so I am looking at replacing the front pivot with either P9-MS03 or P9-MS02.


My question to you Hans is what is the difference in terms of functionality and quality between the two clamps? As I look at the picture posted above it's not clear to me how the device is more adjustable.

What sorts of modifications are required to the foam insulation that goes on the torque tube?

"MS02 is the original no-holds-bar design.  It uses a top quality Enduro dual row bearing for the rotational axis.  This is loaded in a bearing car that can be moved vertically in 1mm increments with different bushings available from McMaster for under $2.  You want to raise the axis to keep the rear shift link parallel to the tube and input selector on the trans.  Many short shift levers do not compensate for the geometry change, and you get binding at the rear coupler.  

MS03 has a fixed pivot height, similar to the stock 87+ rotational axis.  It has Igus Z-series bushings for the rotation (instead of the bearing above).  Both are fully constrained, and offer much crisper shifting than the stock solution.  

The MS02 has the benefit of being adjusted from the cockpit after install, and the bearing can easily be replaced from above (if ever necessary).  

The MS01 lever has several adjustment points for not only the throw, but the height of the knob as well.  I find I prefer the lower position, as it keep the knob inline with the standard height center armrest.

If there was enough request, I could add an extended height lever option - it would just be a longer insert.  I would need to get a couple other people that would want super tall levers before ordering them, but its easily swapped in withing minutes by just pulling up the boot.

I have only installed (several sets of) Hans’ original design. My sensibility for the install requires modification of the tunnel foam. His newest piece looks like I would require about the same modification of the foam.

That written, I take a chunk out of the foam to accommodate the pivot and base and then another two ‘slices’ out of the foam to accommodate the torque tube clamp.

These mods done, of course, with the foam and shifter pieces on a bench.

$38K? You forgot the purchase price!
You know, I have a few inches of receipts that come with my car... I've owned it for 22 years. But I literally never added them up! I probably have the same amount invested in her as well. And those were pre-inflation dollars!
