This may not be the correct area to post this, but since it's 928 related, and not for sale, I thought it at least somewhat appropriate.

I am in the midst of swapping out the stock engine in my 78 928 for a LS1, and realized that I have no reason to hold onto the stock engine, nor the spare from the prior owner's t-boned 81.

Is anyone interested in a running 78 engine, and/or a supposedly functional 81 engine?

I'm in the southern part of the Seattle Tacoma metro area, and at this point am more interested in putting them in hands that can use them, rather than just scrapping them to recoup the garage space.

The 78 engine is still in the car at the moment, so I can fire it up if someone wanted to see if hear it running, though it does have vacuum leaks and at least a couple of dribbling fuel nozzles, so it's cranky when it's been sitting.
Compression numbers looked good when I tested it, all within ~10 psi of each other, IIRC, though I will need to grab my notes if actual numbers are of interest.

As said at the top, free to a good home, though if someone wanted to drop a little change in the petty cash, no objections...

Happy wrenching, and happy new year's to you all.

Jeez that's a great offer! I wish I was on your side of the country. Anyway, post this up on rennlist too. The guys would really appreciate it and someone will take them. :beerchug:

Good idea.
While I don't spend much time over on RL (due to the drama going on in the 928 section), hopefully finding a home for the engines shouldn't involve any of the vendor and shop drama.

I posted there a few days ago, to resounding silence.

I'll probably give it a week or so more, before I let a scrapper friend of mine haul them off.
I'd rather they be put to good use, but I don't have the space to keep them forever, nor the budget to refurbish them to near new condition.

(The gleefully itemized accounts of all the expenses of repairs and rebuilding the engines is what led me to switch after getting the engine running. The clutch that the prior owner paid to have relined won't release fully, and seeing the $4500 pricetag on a replacement clutch set from the vendors on RL was the last straw. $150 for a complete LS1 set, and $35 for a slave cylinder/throw out bearing...)

good luck with the swap. most people start out thinking its cheaper, but swaps end up being a little more complex and when you put in an LS if you plan on putting in a normal transmission you are going to have to cut the tunnel and the floor plan...
And you will have to drop the trans to do a clutch so that means if you didn't cut the floorpan and tunnel correctly you will have to pull the engine to do a clutch or you could do a Z06 trans but that's not an easy fit either, and then you have to look at dropping the whole trans and rear suspension to service a clutch or TO bearing.

I ended up going with the texas performance concepts kit that xschop developed.

This uses the stock trans, and a stock ls clutch set with a dodge pickup disc that fits in the Porsche driveshaft.

So far I'm in around $1200 total, but that's because I had access to a free engine from a car, so I didn't have to buy all the car accessory drive parts.

I would imagine at that mileage every bushing an[…]
