I'm bottom feeding looking for something of a "slam pig".

I have dreams of further being the bane of Porsche purists by swapping in an LS at some point.

If this stays below $20,000.

My 996 cabrio, which I've had for about 15 years now, is closing in on 200k miles. Only major work on it is changing out the IMSB at around 110k miles.

So yes, go for it!

It's high mileage, 7 owners. I imagine she's a little sloppy.

My top dollar is $20,000 with current limited information, last sold for $26,500. Slim chance? On the previous auction someone mentioned seeing one bank smoking on the cold start.

It'd be interesting to run it until it pops, or doesn't. Not sure it's worth doing anything with the flat six when a conversion kit and brand new crate LS can be had for sub $15,000.

I watched the startup, not bad at all.

I once bought a 987, 2.7 Boxster with 168k miles, drove the shit out of it for 2 years. Sold to an East coast guy who called me on Sunday, asked questions about car, said he would fly out that Tuesday and drive it home. No incidents on his drive home and he said the drive and car were "fantastic". Sloppy means it slips in easier! There were maybe 3 times while I owned it where a cold start was met by a garage full of smoke....life of a pancake!

I'm likely to bid on it.

I don't know how much over $20,000 I'm willing to go. I also don't need three vehicles.

I made my meme bids, so I'll sit and wait until tomorrow at the end.

So, I just got a call I'm not getting my truck back until the end of November. The 928 was pressed back into DD service, 1400 mile round trip, however the AC is out and I didn't order parts.

~~~
Based on this I believe it's going to go for too much.
Yeah, it's going for the same or more than the seller bought it for, having done exactly zero maintenance.. Didn't even change the old tires. I'm out. Good day for the seller.
Not a $28k car oh well.
But that one has the legendary Mezger engine. Mine has the plain old M96. :bigcry:
You're stating the obvious :evilgrin: ......there's a huge gap between a narrow body 996, and just about any other 911!
Fox_ wrote: Wed Dec 03, 2025 12:11 pm The 996 wide bodies go for an absurd premium.
Amdavid is correct.
However, There was a 4 a 3.4 that failed to meet reserve at $18,500
I remember the days where you couldn't give away a 2.7 liter 911 or a 964.
Not saying the 996 will ever turn into that but with the 992s feeling more like GTs than sports cars, we may one day live in a time where that 1st gen water-cooled is heralded because of its simplicity and light weight!
If you're going to spend $45,000 on a C4S you might as well spend a little more and get a Turbo.
I contacted a guy had a C4S for sale on rennlist for $31,000. He never got back with me, relisted on Cars & Bids.
Bid to $32,000 on the first day.
Wait, no, the deleted the bid and banned the guy.
My original advice still stands..........look for a high mile 997.1, or stop screwing around and pony up for a 996TT.
Wrong fox I do believe.
tl;dr: many things, little time.
I have very limited free time. I’m going to do some work on the 928 before selling it, especially after seeing how poorly hese cars are still doing at auction.
996s keep selling high, and higher-mileage 997s are a bit rarer. I’m not forcing a buy. yet. Lack of conviction? The Raptor took almost a year to settle on and find.
I’m also looking to buy or build a shop as soon as I find a seller who isn’t head-up-ass delusional. Either zero interest rates broke people’s brains, broke the dollar, or both. Logically, that should come before another car.
Last two cars I bid on:
