They don't have access to the private area unless given access.

Correct. We want Google Bot here to index the open forums but the private forums will not appear.

Now since we did have the forum open for the first several days we do have some indexed posts but if anyone clicks on them then it asks for a password and won't grant access unless they have the right permissions.

So we're good!
