Serious question - what is the effect of turning off stability control while leaving traction control on in a .2 3RS?

My other cars have an “intermediate” traction control setting - loose enough to get sideways in slow corners but tight enough to keep you from spinning ass backwards.

I haven’t had the balls to turn it off in my RS yet. Is the SC off mode a little sliding with a computer safety net or is it, as they used to say on the Beamer forums, TIM YO-YO mode?

That’s It MFer You’re On Your Own.

Yeah, I hear ya. Much as I would love to, I'm not tracking my 991. That's why I have a dedicated track car.... one that I don't care if it gets another bruise or two.

Someday maybe I'll take the 991 to the track for a DE, but not really drive it at 10 10ths.

I remember seeing that picture before and it just shows how much smaller the 997 is. Then do the 997 vs the 993 and it's even smaller.

My goal in 3-4 years is to get a 991.2 GT3 Touring, hopefully in an interesting PTS color once guys start getting rid of theirs. I will have to save up for it but after driving one last year, I still can't get it out of my head. I bounce around on F cars here and there but the Touring is just a mainstay that I can't see myself not getting!

Maybe faster than the 3-4 years but who knows.

Picture just to add to the forum:

And you have a wide body 911, so imagine if you had a narrow long-hood version!

The gas filled struts holding up my engine cover have failed for the second time. Genuine Porsche parts but these things suck. Headed up to Braman lubed up really well and drop 256 bucks on the third set. Ridiculous quality for a Porsche.

Can't find any aftermarket equivalents? They should be a fairly standard part.

I won't go to Braman anymore. They tried to rip me off with maintenance on my Cayenne and when caught in a lie just went silent on me without any additional dialog. So I have an Indy close to PBI Airport or I'll head down to Champion if I really need something.

The struts suck. Have failed on mine too, and twice on my Boxter's trunk. Plenty of cheap after-market ones that work fine. I think boxster ones were about $15 for a pair on ebay.

AFAIK, any and all dealer work is warranted for no less than one year and 12k miles.

The struts are about $55 each at Porsche dealer prices. https://www.getporscheparts.com/oem-par ... wtaDYtZ2Fz

How do you pay $256? $110 for parts and $146 for labor?

FYI, it takes about 10 minutes if you are really super-careful.

That is the currently correct part for the engine lid strut for a 991.1 or .2

One, and only one, guess as to how I know this.

Always take the diagrams with a kilo of salt.

Last year's part number is: 991-512-551-00 which supersedes to -01 this year.

I would not bet a penny that the '01' is better than the '00'. Based upon my 20 years of experience replacing hood, boot and hatch struts on Porsches, buy the cheapest one you can find that conforms to that part number. They will all die within two-ish years on a 2-sigma basis. If you want to buy OEM then buy "Stabilus" brand such as this one: https://www.germanautosupply.com/STABIL ... 512-551-01

If you want the Porsche label on the part you'll need to buy from a Dealer and hope that they aren't just keeping the margin between a Stabilus bought on Amazon and what they would get by ordering from the PCNA warehouse.

Looked closer when I got home. The struts say stabilus. Ill be buying those. Thanks for info.

Got my struts today from stabilus and popped em in in about 4 minutes. Blows my mind that Braman wanted 256 and one hour labor.

My total cost to my door...70 bucks. Hats off to you Worf.

Yeah, good advice on those, no need to pay typical Pcar prices for that kind of stuff. Ordered the stabilus for the old piggy and they've worked great for a couple of years now.

The difference in size always surprises me as the years of the 911 roll on.

Love this pic, wish I could see a 993 next to the big brothers......edit: guess the repost of pic didn't work. was the last of rangers 3 pics.

Puppies are awesome! A ton of work and many times frustrating, but they can be so fun. Today my puppy decided to remind me to not take life so seriously and to relax and enjoy the moment. It started out as a car wash, but her curiosity led her to have her nose on whatever my hands were doing. This quickly transformed into a game of stealing whatever I had in my hands or had recently used. Then she thought it would be fun to play keep away. Ugh! So easy to be frustrated, but given the holidays and trying to remind myself to relax, we had a lot of fun. I’m still not 100% I will let her outside with me next time. This nearly took 2x the time to get done. Anyway, happy holidays and remember to take a breather and relax and enjoy the moment. Like a puppy!

My 2016 991 C4S Cabriolet. I drive my 911's - a lot - my 996 had 225,000 miles on it when it finally died in 2016. I have "only" put just shy of 50,000 miles on the 991 in 5 years. That's a record low for me!! :drink:
